The university of Belgrade was established in 1808, making it the oldest university in Serbia. It is a state run university, founded by Dositej Obradovic and has an emphasis on scientific research. The medical school was founded in 1920, with 850 international students graduating from this institution to date. Nowadays, The university is divided into 31 faculties and the School of Medicine and School of Dental Medicine share a building near the Karađorđev Park, next to several hospitals. Medical degrees are available in English and run for six years, with 24 places available for international students each year.
