The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Târgu Mureș is located in Transylvania. The medical faculty was officially opened in 1991. Prior to this, it was part of the Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca. Over 11,000 medical students attend the medical school, making it the largest university of medicine in the country. The departments include the Faculty of Human Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry and the Faculty of Pharmacy. The university is the only institution to offer programmes in English, Romanian and Hungarian.

Graduates of the Faculty of Medicine Târgu Mureș medical university can continue their studies or residencies in Europe and throughout the world. The six year medical degree has a particular emphasis on Medical Skills, Medical Simulation and Standardised Patient care. The university accepts 100 international students annually.

Târgu Mureș is named after the river it resides next to; the Mures. Due to its western location in Romania, there are many Hungarian influences within the city. Described as ‘the most underrated town’ in Romania, there are many interesting sites to explore such as the Orthodox cathedral, the old town hall and the palace of culture.
