The Odessa National Medical University was founded in 1900. Due to disruptions caused by the first world war, it wasn’t until 1922 that the medical faculty was properly established. Following Ukraine’s independence, Odessa National Medical University was awarded the highest IV level of accreditation. The faculty has modern facilities including ONMU dental clinic, ONMU multidisciplinary University Clinic, Research Institute of Molecular-Genetics and Cellular Medicine.

Study Medicine at the Odessa National Medical University

The medical degree runs for 6 years and is available in English, Russian and Ukrainian. The medical faculty has 62 departments such as Immunological school, Physiological school and Surgical school. Students are given the opportunity to study a diverse range of medical disciplines, including preclinical and clinical studies.

Odessa is known as the pearl of the Black Sea or the humour capital. Originally a Greek settlement, known as Olbia, Catheine the Great founded the city of Odessa (named after the Greek settlers of Odessos) in 1794. The city is 30km north of the Dniester River. In the 1800’s the city became an important hub of trade and was Russia’s second largest port after St.Petersburg. The city is known for its higher education establishments, including the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy.
